Hi!
I wrote a new Tutorial for installing Gnome 3. I took information and doumentation from the Gnome overlay and put it together to a step by step howto.

there is a "/" where it shouldn't be.

Will this upgrade my current 2.x version of gnome, or install it into a new slot?

It will upgrade your Gnome. There is no way to run both versions in different slots as fr as I now.

Yep they use the same file names for multiple files so no side by side sadly.

This line should preferably be added to the top such that it never overwrites make.conf settings.
