I suggest to buy the MSI K8N Neo PLatinum, it's great, no Problems and most Test said that it's the fastest One _________________ Chris |

Tests from who? Tom's Hardware and Anandtech don't support that statement. Is this something specific to GenToo testing? |

I (and a few others I routinely work with) have used the Asus K8V SE Deluxe (aka. 'The King of Athlon64 Motherboards') quite a lot and have had no problems at all (with the latest BIOS ). Onboard sound was never an issue with even the old bios. It also performs great for the old 754 pin style from what I've seen.
Athlon64 3200+ 754 on Asus K8V SE Deluxe
1024MB Kingston KVR Dual-Channel
is what we usually use with no problems. Also works great with some of the newer s754 Semprons, namely the 3100+ which IMHO is a great buy. |

The three motherboards at the top of the thread are the fastest according to anandtech and Toms Hardware. Each one offers different features though.
DFI - Best for overclocking.
ASUS - K8N Fastest Stock (no 1394, no GigLAN) the Deluxe model has those though.
Soltek - Has some memeory config issues and lacks quite a few other features.
If you're just looking for price, you might wanna try the EPOX 8KDA3J ($69 at Newegg).
You could also add the Gigabyte K8NS Pro or the MSI K8N Neo Platinum to the list, depending on what features you want. Gigabyte doesn't yet support WOL, so that could be an issue for you (although they say they are workign on it).
As for Linux stability, you should look around a little more because I haven't tested them all. It seems that all boards have a few issues, but most boards end up working pretty well (w/nForce 3 250 chipset). |
