Hi all,
Recently switched to Nitro sources just cos I fancy a change from the norm - but 3D acceleration is HALF what I got from my old kernel (2.6.10-r6). GLXGEARS shows about 11000 FPS in the old, 5000 FPS in the new.
After two solid days of messing around, I've boiled it down to AGP. Here's some figures:
Code: |
bash-2.05b# cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status: Disabled
AGP initialization failed, please check the ouput
of the 'dmesg' command and/or your system log file
for additional information on this problem.
bash-2.05b#
|
Code: |
bash-2.05b# dmesg | grep agp
Linux agpgart interface v0.100 (c) Dave Jones
bash-2.05b#
|
I have AGPGART compiled in the kernel (I've also tried as a module) plus the correct chipset (nforce/nforce2). DMESG shows no other relevant sections.
Any ideas? I've searched the forums to no avail
Thanks in advance.[/code] _________________ Hysteriagaming.co.uk is now DOT COM! New design, forum, articles, the works! http://www.hysteriagaming.com

BTW missed some vital details:
- Using nvidia driver 6629-r3 (NO others will work at all)
- NvAGP is set to 2 as stated in the nitro forum
- Card is nVidia GeForce 6600GT
- Tried with and without framebuffer running
- Tried opengl-update with nvidia and xorg-x11 _________________ Hysteriagaming.co.uk is now DOT COM! New design, forum, articles, the works! http://www.hysteriagaming.com

You could try a more recent kernel, the first release candidats of the 2.6.11-kernel have some issues with the nvidia-kernel, if you read through the appropriate threads from the nitro-sources, you'll also see that there's a nvidia ebuild for those having problems with the nvidia-module. But really my advice is to update the kernel, you could try the newest 2.6.11-rc5-nitro0, works for me.
Another thing: I have a nVidia GeForce 6600 too (MSI), but i've never reached 11000FPS with glxgears - thats a value i think would only be possible with an GeForce 6800 Ultra or similar....

Yeah that FPS is possible by tuning over time -
1: its overclocked
2: Comment out "load extmod" in yourxorg.conf (You may get a few graphical glitches in the GUI, but 3D is faster)
3: Run at 16bpp
I thought I did have the latest nitro kernel? Maybe I didn;t read thouroughly enough.
Thanks, I'll give it a try. _________________ Hysteriagaming.co.uk is now DOT COM! New design, forum, articles, the works! http://www.hysteriagaming.com
