|
|
Before wasting more time on this I'd like to know if there are in fact xorg drivers for the ATI Rage XL than comes with the Tyan motherboard. From the error messages I'm getting I suspect that the necessary driver does not exist. Can anyone confirm or not? Thanks,
Fred |

I think you are right, but I couldn't get it to work. I enable mach64 in the kernel, but X can't find atyfb which is what the makeconfig says is its name. The ati web site only provides rpm's for this driver and I was not sure how to deal with this in Gentoo and not worth the time to find out. I have a cheap nVidia card on order and thus this is of minimal interest to me at this point. |

Cheers,
- slackerman | It is not supported under those.
Fred Krogh: Try enabeling the ati mach support as module under
Device drivers -> Graphics support -> ATI Mach64 display support _________________ EASY TO INSTALL = Difficult to install, but instruction manual has pictures.

It should be the ati driver in Xorg that you need as suggested here:
http://www.linux.com/howtos/Hardware-HOWTO/video.shtml
It should work with something as simple as: Code: |
Section "Device"
Identifier "ATI Rage XL"
Driver "ati"
EndSection |
assuming of course that all things are correct...
