hi,
when emerging evolution,
it wants to emerge gal
and gal's configure fails with:
---------------------------------------
checking for iconv in -liconv... no
checking for iconv... yes
checking for gnu_get_libc_version... yes
checking if iconv() handles UTF-8... no
configure: error: You need to install a working iconv implementation, such as ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/libiconv
!!! ERROR: gnome-extra/gal-0.22 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 39, Exitcode 1
!!! (no error message)
---------------------------------------
any ideas? |

I have exactly the same problem.
I have already recompiled glibc, but this doesn't solve the problem.
Any solutions or hints ? |

i solved it this way:
i reinstalled gentoo completely, and then i could simply emerge evolution and it worked ... the problem seemed to be that i installed and the uninstalled libiconv.... |

Hm,
i don't like this answer.
I have never installed libiconv, so this can not be the reason of the compiling error.
I hope that somebody has another hint for me, because I don't want to reinstall everything again.
Until know I thought that one of the main advantages of linux over windows is, that you don't have to reinstall everything from time to time. |
