|
|
New computer with AMD MPX 2200 dual CPU's.
First tried to install install-amd64-universal-2005.1.iso and got the message: Quote: | Your processor does not support long mode. Install a 32-bit version. | So next tried install-x86-minimal-2005.1.iso and this time got as far as the chroot step. Entered Code: | chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash | and I am being told Quote: | Cannot run command '/bin/bash'. Exec format error. | Can anyone help, please?

Is your cpu really 64 bit? What does this say
cat /proc/cpuinfo |

- processor: 0
- Model name: AMD Athlon MP 2200+
- processor: 1
- Model name: AMD Athlon processor
Everything else is identical for both processors. BTW , if i just type at the prompt I get another shell, no problem!? |

You're cpu is definitely NOT 64bit. it's an ordinary athlon-xp with smp capabilities. I guess you were getting those exec errors, cause you tried to chroot into a 64bit-environment... _________________ Get a life...

I've been working with a 64bit for some time and just spaced. |

May have answered my own question. I'm using a 32 bit live CD, aparently I need to use the 64 bit version to instal a 64 bit tarball. I give it another go tomorow. |

This is what cat /proc/cpuinfo gives me
processor : 0
vendor_id : AuthenticAMD
cpu family : 15
model : 31
model name : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+
stepping : 0
cpu MHz : 1980.067
There is more but don't really think it is important. I do have a true 64 bit processor and I am getting the same error
error - chroot:cannot run command '/bin/bash' : Exec format error
I am using the stage 3 2005.1 install
Any suggestions?
Thanks |

Are you sure you're using a 64bit-install-cd? can you post the output of "uname -a" and the name of the iso image you downloaded? _________________ Get a life...
