|
|
okay twice in a row, I have installed gentoo perfectly, emerged xorg and gnome perfectly, and when I reboot my machine, xorg starts TWM!
It's like its not even running gdm but in my rc.conf file I have set:
Code: |
DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm"
XSESSION="Gnome"
|
I also remembered to:
Code: |
echo "exec gnome-session" > ~/.xinitrc
|
I followed the guide as perfectly as I could. Is there anything else I can check to make sure that GDM starts when I reboot instead of the ugly TWM login screen?
Thanks as always for any help you can give.

DAMMIT it did it again!
I got gutsy and tried to reboot, and it loaded me into TWM
It's defiantely not loading gdm. because when I go to terminal from TWM, and type in
I get my gnome loginscreen. I can't get much farther than that though, it wont log me in to gnome probably because xorg is already running TWM
please help! somebody! |

To get GDM starting at bootup:
Code: |
rc-update add xdm default
|
The only reason I can think of that twm would be starting up at boot would be if 'startx' was being run as root. Check /etc/conf.d/local.start to make sure there isn't anything in there that's starting the X server. _________________ Free software, free society. |

I think you're right, I am running everything as root, would that be why it runs twm?
I already added the XDM default. Right before it runs TWM at boot, it tells me that it loads XDM it seems like it's not even reading my "XSESSION=" entry |

Well I got it to work by adding gdm to "/etc/conf.d/local.start" I am glad it is working, but it feels like a cheap patch rather than a true fix, please help if you can |
