i just got my install working, and x configured.

Now, i have gnome installed, but how do i start it?

Im sure this is a pretty basic question... but... uhh... yar =/

i tried starting gdm and got the no such command thingy. Following the guide, i went to edit the path in /etc/profile but that was a bit beyond me as well.

If you log in automatically into the console, then edit the file ~/.xinitrc and put the following line in it:
Code:

exec gnome-session

If you can't find a .xinitrc file in your home directly, then create it and put the above line in it. Then run:
Code:

startx

If you have configured your system to book directly into X, then put the line in you .xsession file (I think)

What does "isn't working" and "doesn't work" mean? Are you getting error messages?
