Firstly:
Quote:
(WW) I810(0): /dev/agpgart is either not available, or no memory is available
for allocation. Using pre-allocated memory only.
indicates you don't have a properly configured/installed agp kernel driver. This might not be a problem, but it doesn't hurt to have the correct AGP driver up. Secondly
Quote:
(WW) I810(0): Extended BIOS function 0x5f05 failed.
(WW) I810(0): Failed to set refresh rate to 72Hz.
and
Quote:
(--) I810(0): Xv is disabled because it needs 2D accel and AGPGART.
means that you're not using the accelerated functions of the chip. I would say that you need to recompile the kernel AGPGART(Device Drivers -> Character Devices -> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support) ) and the agp driver for your motherboard (probably the intel chip "Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support").

Thanks, I see what you're talking about. This would probably fix my problem but I can't select these two options. Here's what the screen looks like:

< > Application intelligent fieldbus card support
< > Sony Vaio ...
--- /dev/agpart (AGP Support)
< > Ali chipset
.
. (skipping a few)
.
--- Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
< > NVIDIA nforce...

The only two I need, instead of having a < > that I can turn into a <*>, has a --- and it won't let me include it in the kernel configuration.

Any suggestions?

Hmm...
I'm not sure.
But first can you please edit your first post and remove all the commented lines and also delete the first Xorg log please, this will make your post far more readable.

Then, usually when --- appears, I think the feature is actually selected and cannot be removed (to be confirmed).
But what kernel did you emerge and more importantly did you patch it?

I have an i915gm chipset and I emerged gentoo-sources-2.6.15-r1. On my kernel menuconfig I can select those options...

If you're not sure what version you emerged you can do a :
Code:
genlop gentoo-sources
for example.

Code:
genlop gentoo-sources

Didn't do anything for me. But I can tell you that i am using Linux Kernel v2.6.15-gentoo-r1

Yeh, sorry about that, for genlop to work you first need to emerge it
Code:
emerge genlop

So apparently you use the same kernel as me.
Don't worry about the ---, the features are actually compiled in the kernel.

You have X11 version 6.8.2 right?

Thanks for the help, but I finally gave up on this old GX270. I was using it mainly as a test before I installed it on my home PC, which is running now while I'm at work.

Interesting thing - when I booted to the Gentoo Live CD at home, it loaded a desktop environment, and I went through a GUI based install. That bootable GUI errored out and didn't load on the GX270, so I'm thinking I'll just give up on this particular problem on this test machine.

I do appreciate all the input though, and I'll be haunting this forum as I try to tweak my system at home once it's running. I plan on using Linux as my primary OS instead of Windows.
