Has anyone gotten Counter-Strike 1.4 to work with Wine?
If so, what version?
I am running 20020411, and 1.3 worked for me, but not 1.4
It crashes as soon as I try to enter a game.

Thanks,
Andrew

yea a lot of people had problems with 1.4 on win
but i have even worse news.
the new anti cheat from valve *supposedly* kicks ppl running on wine.

my cousins cs1.4 (in windows) crashed as soon as he tried to connect to a game (well after it got to the Server #32894 part) . he reinstalled cs1.4 and it worked fine. i would recommend maybe try reinstalling and or installing the large cs updates (csv14full and hl1109 full upgrade for all ver).

im gonna be trying this out here in a few days now that i got my sound working (woohoo) ill post teh results.

i downloaded and compiled winex and cs ran fine except it complained about needing 16bit color, -winver win98 fixed that. about the crashing i dunno. id suggesting check your x configuration or your video drivers.

Well, cept for the fact that I tried running cs 1.4 in RH before Gentoo came along and it didn't work with winex either.
Guess I will have to try again.

I can run CS 1.4 fine with wine, winex runs it somewhat slower in my experience. But since the update to Counter-Strike v1.4 I cannot get my sound to work while running in either wine or winex, anyone else experienced this problem?

looks like winex 2.01 fixes the anticheat incompatibility with cs 1.4

i dunno about running them together. i tried and had nothing but problems.

and for the sound thing you have to disable your microphone input in your hl/cs config file.

I use them together without any problem, but you have to understand this all depends on how the ebuild or in mandrakes case rpm was built, which is why your wine was getting overwritten in mandrake.
