Yeah !

Taht trick with EXTRA_ECONF apparently works !

How stupid of me ! I should have tried something so obvious a long time ago :wink:

Seriously, is there any chance that this might be incorporated in the next wine ebuild ?

No, not really. According to the wine maintainer: "your multilib schema is broken, not the package" (bug 85661). So no it does not look like this is going to get fixed in the wine ebuild. The problem will probably go away when we get to 2005.1 and all these emul-* packages can disapear. Until then you'll just have to use the EXTRA_ECONF workaround.

That's a shame, but at least it works for now. I managed to get Internet Explorer 6 installed and running on my AMD64 last night... why? Because I can...

How did you installed the IE6? I've tried it and had no luck. Can you explain what you did?

I used winetools to do the actual installation. All I needed to do was remove the Xdialog binary that came with it and emerge it by itself.

I previously had wine-20050211 installed following all of the advice in this forum, thanks. Yesterday I tried to upgrade to wine-2005310 and have met some new problems. It looks like the same -lXext bug, but I have the necessary sym links from last time. Something else that might be causing trouble...i upgraded to glibc-2.3.4.20041102-r1

Another potential problem, I didn't apply the patch on bugzilla...different version of the ebuild. use it anyways?

Heres the error...

You can use the patch for the wine-20050310 from the version before. That worked for me. That will solve this error message.

Any idea why I get this:

Code:
[blocks B     ] <x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.0-r4 (is blocking x11-base/opengl-update-2.1.1-r1)
[blocks B     ] <=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs-1.2-r3 (is blocking x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r1)

When I tried to update my emul proggies.
Sorry if it's the wrong thread to post this.

Here's an updated patch for the current version:
Code:
cd /usr/portage/app-emulation/wine
wget http://fermat.ma.rhul.ac.uk/~herbie/wine-amd64-fixes.patch
patch -p0 < wine-amd64-fixes.patch
emerge wine

This should cure the -lXext issues as well as a couple of other things.

Tuinslak:
just emerge emul-linux-x86-xlibs first:
Code:
emerge emul-linux-x86-xlibs
emerge xorg-x11

Thanks herbie, worked like a charm. No need now for EXTRA_CONFIG or custom USE flags:)

I use the AMD64 multilib 2005.0 profile. I also updated today to the new stable 2.6.11-gentoo-r3 kernel.

I've tried to emerge wine-20050310:
Code:
These are the packages that I would merge, in reverse order:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N    ] app-emulation/wine-20050310  +X +alsa +arts +cups -debug -doc +gif +glut +jack +jpeg +lcms +nas +ncurses +opengl +oss 0 kB

But it fails this way:
Code:
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.3/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.3/../../../libXext.a when searching for -lXext

Notice the errors about-lXext and glut32.dll.so at the beginning. Was somebody succesful at emerging this wine version?

Well. I don't know why, but I missed herbie's patch two post above :?
I'm just trying again after patching the wine-20050310 ebuild.
Let's see how it goes. I'll let you know.

-----------

A few seconds later... (if only!! :lol: ) it emerged successfully!!

Thanks herbie for the patch, and please accept my apologies for not having seen it in advance :oops:

Anyone have any ideas where I can begin looking for a solution on this?

This was after remerging emul-linux-x86-xlibs and xorg-x11.

Using 2005.0 (after fighting with multilib on the upgrade.)

/etc/make.conf :
Code:

PORTAGE_NICENESS="15"
USE="cups foomaticdb ppds nvidia x11 truetype gnome gtk dvd jikes joystick mbox mozilla alsa oss perl samba usb jack multilib sandbox"
ALSA_CARDS="via82xx"
CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe"

yay, solution to the pthread_join problem:

locate libphtread and delete the ones inside /emul/linux/x86/

this solved it for me.

I think running:
Code:

equery l -i emul-linux*

And unmerging all those packages, then:
Code:

rm -rf /emul/

then re-emerging the packages listed by equery earlier.

will make it better also, but I haven't tried.
