First of all, thanks for reading this.
I'm a complete newbie to PC, Linux and Gentoo. As a Mac OS X user, I have chosen Gentoo for my new PC at work since it is a Linux distro very similar to "fink", the way I install GNU software under OS X. Besides, I've been told the Gentoo community is really helpful
I've been trying for a whole month to install AMD64 Gentoo from stage 1, and finally this week both "bootstrap.sh" and "emerge system" worked flawlessly.
After I compiled the kernel and rebooted, I emerged kde and koffice right away, and then emerged the three nvidia packages as indicated in the docs for my GeForce 5200.
Then I created my xorg.conf, but the nvidia driver failed to load.
The thing is that when I did a "lspci" command, I got this answer:
Code: Select all
bash-2.05b# lspci
bash: lspci: command not foundI'm used to the command line, but the one from Mac OS X, which is based upon FreeBSD. I got no Linux experience whatsoever.
Thanks in advance.
FYI, here is the result of my "dmesg":
Code: Select all
