hi there,

i have heard that somebody has put linux (txt only) on a gameboy?

can somebody fill me in if this is true??

Gameboy Advance are based on a 32-bit ARM processor, so yes, why not. Bet eCos is already running on it. Why don't you take your rumour to the IRC, channel #gentoo-arm on irc.freenode.org, to get a confirmation (or receive a public flogging).

A friend of mine told me that netbsd can run on gba, so I don't see why it wouldnt be possible for gentoo to run on it.

NetBSD runs on any platform you can throw at it. FreeBSD works on x86 and Alpha (PPC if you count Darwin). Linux runs on many systems, but not as many as NetBSD. Besides, just because it is a supported processor doesn't mean the system architechture is supported (this includes motherboard, buses, memory etc.)

I think it would be a great idea. I have a GBA SP and it would be a awsome little PDA. I also have a 64mbit flash cart too. if anyone finds out anything about a possibility of linux on the GBA let me know.

I saw somewhere that it can be done. I even downloaded a rom, but it didn't work on a real GBA, nor in VirtualBoy.

I got this to work on my GBA with an EZ Flash Advance 256Mb cart. Page for the project: http://wwwhsse.fh-hagenberg.at/Studierende/hse02006/uclgba/

I'm working on trying to find a good way to get my EZ Flash Advance cart to be readable/writable in Gentoo. Nobody is working on porting the drivers to linux.

is there any shematics for an adaptater:
gameboy cartridge<=>compaq flash
it's because:
-the gameboy flash cartridge aren't easely findable
-it's too expensive(the gameboy sp isn't mine and the person who have it has also some compact flash card)
i've search on the web but i've found it

They could get a pointer on the screen that would take the place of the stylus. It might not be as fast as using a stylus, but it would be too damn smooth.

I would be hard at work on it myself if I knew I knew a damn thing about development.

The only speedbump I've ever run into, with my cart, is that I have to flash in Windows, since there aren't any Linux binaries/modules for the EZ Flash Advance USB cable. This is at least until I get it working native or in VMWare.

If I knew anybody who was working on it I'd be happy to help troubleshoot as much as I can, since I have the hardware. It would be a hell of a lot better than crappy WinS and Pogoshell.

I can see it now. You could slide open a toolbox (ala the graffiti pad in PalmOS 6) on the side or bottom of the screen to type, or even use something similar to that K+, or just scroll through letters and characters for all I care. It would kick fat booty.

See that, now I'm all excited over nothing.
