hi there

i am trying my hand with gentoo

i am facing one problem

when i extract the stage3 package i get this error

"tar: ./proc/.keep: Cannot open: No such file or directory"

i have checked with md5,the package is fine
i am installing gentoo from Fedora core 2,since i do not have so much of bandwidth to download the live CD

also i did this before extracting the file

mkreiserfs /dev/hda5
mount /dev/hda5 /mnt/gentoo/
mkdir /mnt/gentoo/proc
mount -t proc none /mnt/gentoo/proc
cp /mnt/cdrom/stage3-pentium3-2004.3.tar.bz2 /mnt/gentoo/
cd /mnt/gentoo/
md5sum -c stage3-pentium3-2004.3.tar.bz2.md5
tar -xjpvf stage3-pentium3-2004.3.tar.bz2

here i get the error

please help

i googled also for this problem but could not find the solution
i do not have any tutorial for installing gentoo from a base system
i hope the handbook which describes installing from LIVE cd wil help me for the same

regards

You should do this after unpacking the stage tarball.

Normally, you won't miss the zero-byte /proc/.keep. When proc is mounted, it will be hidden anyway.

But if you're installing from an existing distribution, you may have to do
Code:
mount --bind /proc /mnt/gentoo/proc
mount --bind /dev /mnt/gentoo/dev
(and probably
Code:
umount /mnt/gentoo/proc
before).
