I installed Gentoo on my Sony VAIO NV170 laptop. The built-in sound card is (got this by cat /proc/pci | grep audio) Intel Corp. 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio (rev 2).
I installed alsa. the driver (I use snd-intel8x0) could load, but the sound is really terrible. Have anyone configured this card successfully? Thanks. |

from 0.9.0rc6, it is giving me very good results. If you don't like it, try the OSS/Free kernel drivers. They also work.

There's not much noise. But the sound is broken up. If I turn down the PCM, there's no sound at all. |

My T30 has exactly the same sound card. I use alsa too. But I use the driver i810_audio instead of snd-intel8x0. The sound quality seems ok to me. |

Isn't i810_audio the OSS/Free kernel driver???
