Hi, when i fire up xmms form kde (run command), it doesn't do nothing, then, if i fire it from the console, it does not give any output, it just sits there as if it where reading from stdin, the funniest thing is that it was working this morning, i rm'ed .xmms and remerged but nothing changes,
BTW: the process does start, but it just doesn't appear on screen.

any ideas?

thanks. Lucas.

i noticed none of us cryed out about having to unemerge avi-xmms.

i was wondering why do we install this great meta distro if we end up emerging packages that won't be needed

:?: :!:

Same happened as soon as I emerged avi-xmms.

Unmerging now. Maybe something wrong in the ebuild, or something just needs updated?

How can you install xmms without the plugins?

Thanks, I had the same problem and that worked for me too. Is there anyway to get xmms-avi working?

i don't think that xmms installs any plugin by default , if so, you should check your USE flags

/etc/make.profile/make.defaults contains this
Code:
USE="x86 oss 3dnow apm arts avi berkdb crypt cups encode gdbm gif gpm gtk imlib
java jpeg kde gnome libg++ libwww mikmod mmx motif mpeg ncurses nls oggvorbis
opengl pam pdflib png python qt qtmt quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl
svga tcpd truetype X xml2 xmms xv zlib"

and /etc/make.conf
Code:
USE="acpi apm arts cdr cups dvd encode fbcon java jpeg -kde -arts matrox
mikmod mozilla mpeg -nls pdflib samba sse wmf"

What should I change to prevent plug-ins from installing?

taking a blind shot here, but it seems that you have the avi USE flag set, to emerge xmms without avi support you can unset it (always change make.conf and never make.defaults) or, if you want avi support in all your system except by xmms you can do this

Code:
USE="-avi" emerge xmms

remember that this is not tested, just guessing here
