@juniper in my case i just got the patches, dropped them in the files directory (/.../app-misc/beagle/files), then i did a ebuild /.../beagle-0.1.1.ebuild digest, and then emerge app-misc/beagle

fyi - I did not have edit any ebuild files...

I also had to remerge gmime

indexing contacts requires evolution-sharp, a package not yet available in portage. the beagle ebuild has disabled contacts indexing for now.

evolution-sharp will be added to portage soon. note that beagle *does* index evolution mail without evolution-sharp installed, it is only address book indexing that is affected.

p.s.
beagle is now in portage :)

dsd: I have two questions

1. The settings window for beagle has an option to autostart beagle on login to session. Is that non-functional at the moment ? I suppose so because you suggest manually adding to gnome-session.
2. I have successfuly compiled and run beagle on my ibook, ppc arch. Is it possible to add ~ppc keywording to the ebuild ? should I file a bug for it ?

1. I tried - it doesn't do anything - not starting beagled and not starting best.

2. done: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=110551

no, deskbar as standard doesnt use beagle at all (to my knowledge). however if you type "? my search terms" then it literally opens best and performs a search

Well I think the beagle settings dialog doesn't really work. Only when I manually put 'beagled' in gnome-session-properties it auto starts. Same with best.

hello,

dsd: i don't think i want the web interface, but if you want me to test out the webservices use flag let me know.

everyone: i am sure that some of you want to enable evolution-sharp to search you evolution address book. does anyone know how to do this? if you look in the ebuild provided by portage there is a line --disable-evolution-sharp and i have tried removing this and replacing it my --enable-evolution-sharp and i get an error.

i know that this is a quick fix. of course, such a simple fix won't emerge evolution-sharp, if you need it. i happen to have already emerged evolution-sharp, so that is not an issue for me.

beagle-settings will work in general (path indexing/exclude patterns etc) - only the autostart stuff should be not working

Has the Firefox extention been updated to be compatable with Deer Park? If so, where do I get it?

I tried to follow how to make one, but got lost in the instructions. Am about to try a hack for the resources.rdf.

FIXED
Is OK now, found an extention for Deer Park called 'Nightly Tester Tools' that allows you to change the versioning of extentions. Will only work on some, but is fine for the Beagle Indexer extention.

Beagle is still not compatible with Firefox 1.5, we'll just have to wait a tad longer now that Firefox 1.5 is right around the corner (so no one is forced to upgrade to beta or rc software).

Added 2005-11-19 : Since today Firefox 1.5 is supported in CVS and 0.1.3 (or higher) should thus contain this fix and the above error be no more, I have cvs running with Firefox 1.5 flawless, it's good to be back.

Is there any word on how soon? This is one of the main features of Beagle, and it is a shame that none of us portage-obedient Gentooists have it. :(

i havent been able to find any existing developers to pick up the package, so i guess i will maintain it myself for now.

if anyone has a basic knowledge of C#, mono and gentoo ebuilds, and might be interested in becoming a gentoo package maintainer, specifically for beagle-related packages like evolution-sharp and gsf-sharp, then please send me an email (dsd@gentoo.org) and maybe glance at the developer handbook first. as well as those packages, if you wanted you could also help maintaining beagle, and it would be nice to see other cool mono apps like f-spot and banshee headed into portage...

Is there a way to get beagle to limit its use of disk space? I'd like to be able to set a limit (say 2GB) and then have beagle jettison old firefox and liferea content as it reaches that limit. If there's no way to do that automatically, does anyone have any suggestions on what to remove? This morning I discovered that my .beagle directory had grown to over 6GB. I deleted the contents of the firefox directory as a quick way to gain space, but there's still about 2GB in the Log directory and 3GB in the TextCache directory. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to get rid of older content in the TextCache because it's divided into several subdirectories.

I'm assuming that this the accumulation from web-pages visited and rss feeds viewed, but perhaps there's something wrong with my setup.

How did you delete the visited pages? I've been trying to work that out.

In your home directory, you should have a folder named .beagle/firefox. I just deleted that entire folder and then recreated it. I don't think I broke anything since it's filling up again. However, I would like to be able to just remove the older content and prune some other directories.

Doesn't work for me; the folder was empty, and deleting it did nothing (as one would expect for an empty folder) :(

I just installed beagle from portage.

I tried running beagled --debug --fg

Code:
Debug: Starting Beagle Daemon (version 0.1.2)
Debug: Command Line: /usr/lib/beagle/BeagleDaemon.exe --debug --fg
Debug: Starting main loop
Debug: Starting messaging server

And after that nothing happens. It just hangs there.

Anyone have any ideas for solving this?

Thanks

Fixed It worked after a system restart

Code:
Error: Could not load configuration from indexing.xml: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

I get this error when I run "best" or "beagle-config" so It only indexes my homefolder
i found that indexing.xml file in ~/.beagle/config,
Why cant it find it?
I am using latest (~x86 )beagle.
Any one????

Beagle rocks (kde fans should check out kat).
Any planned date for beagle 0.2.0 ebuild? :D
It needs gmime-sharp at least 2.1.19 (max available in portage is 2.1.16 for now).
