I tried emerging with sandbox off as described:
Code:
FEATURES="-sandbox" emerge gmime

But I still get this:
Code:
sed -e 's?\@GMIME_LIBDIR\@?-L/usr/lib?g' \
    -e 's?\@GMIME_INCLUDEDIR\@?-I/usr/include/gmime-2.0?g' \
    -e 's?\@GMIME_LIBS\@?-lgmime-2.0 -lz -lnsl?g' \
    -e 's?\@VERSION\@?2.1.16?g' \
      < ./gmimeConf.sh.in > gmimeConf.tmp \
  && mv gmimeConf.tmp gmimeConf.sh

The error in the sandbox log is this:
Code:
open_wr:   /root/.wapi/shared_data-tux-7-0

I tried taking sandbox out of the features in /etc/make.conf, but it still doesn't work.

Oh! I just found that the solution is here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-382127-highlight-gmime+sandbox.html

Hmm... this solution did not work for me

Mmmh - for me it did, so I was able to finally get gmime with portage. So if it does not work for you, here's how I managed to get beagle before:
Code:
#ebuild /usr/portage/dev-libs/gmime/gmime-2.1.16.ebuild unpack
#cd /var/tmp/portage/gmime-2.1.16/work/gmime-2.1.16
#./configure --prefix=/usr && make && make install
#echo =dev-libs/gmime-2.1.16 >>/etc/portage/packages.provide

Note that paths etc are written from memory, so there might be some errors in the code - but the way I did it should be clear
Good luck!

Well, I played around with it some more, applied a patch to gmime that is supposed to fix the problem, then had to emerge as root (I normally emerge as my normal user), and explictly call /usr/bin/emerge (I have emerge aliased to a script which calls emerge, but times it and stuff like that).

So, I have it all installed now. Best still won't return any search results, but maybe because beagled is still indexing everything?

Do you run a 2.6.13 kernel? Only these got the inotify version used by beagle. If I got the docs right, it should do without, but best didn't show any results untill I installed a new kernel...

Ah ok. I am waiting until one of the 2.6.13 kernel sources in gentoo becomes x86 stable, then I'll see.

The 0.1 version works great here, but there is a habit hat i dont like and shouldn't be this way:

imagine the situation where you have 3 files in your index, called "hazelnut 01.jpg" "hazelnut 02.jpg" and "hazelnut 03.jpg". when i search for "hazelnut" all 3 files appear in the result, but when i only search for "hazel", my result does not contain these files.

has anyone experienced the same?

cheers m00re

I have same "problem", it's probably done on purpose but not all my files are neatly named, for example I have pictures where the filenames have no spacing, so they can be called "Londonoutsidethehotel.jpg" "mikegettingchokedathotel.jpg" etc, and when searching for hotel or mike neither ofcourse shows up, and all of a sudden the faster solution is just to browse for them instead of putting the entire filename in the search window (who remembers exact filenames?).

As default behaviour I accept the current way, but there should be some toggle or something that also allows me to broaden the search so even these results shows up.

fyi, i get the same error as the fellow below; that is, beagle can't determine my account name.

I can't get it to work either.

If i run the beagle daemon with --fg and watch for errors I get an error that it can't determine my account name, :(

Yeah, and I got this error while emerging beagle:

Ok, nevermind, I got it to install. I was using app-misc/beagle-0.1.1.ebuild when I should be using beagle-0.1.1.ebuild (don't ask me what the difference is, I have no idea!).

no, you should be using the one labelled app-misc/beagle-0.1.1.ebuild as this is the one going into portage
the problem is that you did not download the additional patches too

Ah, I see, thanks.

So, 0.1.1 will end up in portage? Any idea how soon?

is anyone having trouble with links in beagle? i am using beagle-0.1.1 and when mail links (like "open" or "reply to message") nothing happens. pdf/document links work fine.

i have evolution as my default mail program.

juniper? are you using the ebuild from bugzilla with my patches? if so you also need
http://www.reactivated.net/patches/beagle/0.1.1+cvs/05_uri-serialization-fix.patch

dsd:

just downloading that file and putting in app-misc/beagle/files didn't work.

do i have to edit the ebuild? i notice that there are only two patches listed in the patches section of the ebuild, the beagle-0.1.1.ebuild from bugs gentoo and those two patches are on the ebuild site.

anyways, i tried to edit the ebuild to include the patch and it no long emerges, it complains that it can't apply the patch. there is an error, but i suspect i am doing something bonehead stupid, so let me know, otherwise i can post the error.

you have to modify the ebuild to apply the patch, and you have to apply it after the other 2

dsd:

hmmmmmmmm. the patch isn't applying cleanly. here is what i did.

got the beagle-0.1.1.ebuild.

i got the following patches from you site -

03_no-null-task-source.patch
04_new-uri-serialization-scheme.patch
05_uri-serialization-fix.patch

i editted the section of the ebuild concerning patches. i changed

Code:

# Fix an indexing crasher
epatch ${FILESDIR}/03_no-null-task-source.patch

# Fix handling of filenames
epatch ${FILESDIR}/04_new-uri-serialization-scheme.patch

to

Code:

# Fix an indexing crasher
epatch ${FILESDIR}/03_no-null-task-source.patch

# Fix handling of filenames
epatch ${FILESDIR}/04_new-uri-serialization-scheme.patch

# Fix the last patch
epatch ${FILESDIR}/05_uri-serialization-fix.patch

and here is the output of emerge beagle

Code:

emerge app-misc/beagle
