Hi,
I'm new to Gentoo, I have installed using stage3 (appears AOK), I also downloaded the packages iso which I have extracted to '/usr/portage/packages' using Kiso......
So far all emerge commands have been executed without options AOK - but the KDE-base build took over 24 hrs to complete on my PC - Athlon 1100.
I thought I would emerge openoffice as a binary install (for a faster install) but emerge reports as follows:-
# emerge openoffice-bin-1.1.4 -K
Calculating dependencies
!!! Problem in app-office/openoffice-bin-1.1.4 dependencies.
!!! "Specific key requires an operator (app-office/openoffice-bin-1.1.4) (try adding an '=')" exceptions.
What does this mean & how can I resolve....?
Many thanks

You're specifying what version you want. You shouldn't have to do this, so simply try emerge openoffice-bin -K. If it tries to emerge another version (other than the package you have) you can specify the exact version like this: emerge "=openoffice-bin-1.1.4" -K.
