|

I've got a fresh install of gentoo 2004.3 on a Sun Ultra 5. When configuring the kernel I just left all the defaults and made sure that I picked those options specirfically called for in the handbook.
I installed xorg from grp package. It's version 6.8.0-r1
If I run Xorg -configure I get the following results:
The screen blanks for a while and then comes back to the console. In the text on the screen there is a list of drivers (atimisc, r128, radeon, sunffb, sunleo, suncg6, ...) and in that list fbdev is listed twice. If I look at the log, I see it generates an error because it tries to load that module twice and its a once-only module.
However, that doesn't seem to be the real problem.
Later in the log it says: Xorg is not able to detect your mouse.
Do I need to load a specific module for mouse support?
If instead I run Xorgcfg, the X server starts up with the config screen and then the mouse and keyboard lockup. I can't even Ctrl-Alt-Backspace out of it. I need to power off and back on.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

I should have mentioned that I'm using the 2.4.27 kernel.

Yes, it did help. Thank you very much. I also copied the information from the keyboard section.
It surprises me that this isn't in a FAQ. Or is it?
Thanks,
