Hi there,

in the gentoo documentation for installing gentoo, i got to the part where i do the modprobe for my SCSI card (right at the beginning). i typed this in:

modprobe aic7xxx

it came back saying:

module not found.

so, thinking that the CD hadnt loaded onto the RAM Drive properly, i tried booting again. still the same problem. I also tried doing an INSMOD, but still, no use. I have also tried the same things on my network card (8139too) and my USB Mouse (usbmouse).

Still, nothing. Can anybody suggest as to why the modprobe and insmod are coming back with this message?

thanks

ophir

module not found

Don't you think that is explanation enough? Anywho, to find out what modules are available for your modprobe pleasure, do

find /lib/modules -name '*.o'

That means there are no modules to load. That probably means that everything has been compiled to the kernel. The new LiveCD has reverted to the modular approach, I don't see why everything in kernel is so bad.

Why do you need either of those things early in the installation process? Can't they wait until you are running from your own compiled kernel?

Oh...it's a bit confusing because the thread starts out talking about problems with the livecd. Have a look at Vlad's USB Mouse and Keyboard How-To, if you haven't seen it already, and if you're still having problems, start new threads, because it's very unlikely people will think to come here to help.
