I'm trying to share a printer using cups with an other Gentoo box. Both boxes are running KDE, have CUPS installed and running, and were built with cups in the USE variable. Also I DO NOT have iptable running on either box and they are both connected to the same hub and are able to share files with NFS.
I can print fine from the box directly attached to the printer, but the other box dosen't see the printer. I think I have browsing enabled in cupsd.conf.
Code: |
Browsing On
BrowseProtocols CUPS
BrowsePort 631
BrowseInterval 30
BrowseTimeout 300
BrowseAddress 255.255.255.255
BrowseOrder allow,deny
|
I've also tried to manualy add the printer to the other box with the URI ipp://<SERVER>/printers/<PRINTER_NAME> using the cups web interface but that didn't work either
Does anyone know something else for me to try or a good place to learn more about setting up a CUPS server. |

Does anyone have this working? I'm sure I'm just missing something simple, but I don't know what else to try. |

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but 255.255.255.255 means exact host address. I think you may need 255.255.255.0 for you LAN class C.

Thanks, but that dosen't seem to help. I'm trying to browse using the add remote cups printer from the KDE control center. Is there a better/different way to browse? |
