|
|
Hello,
I have one question regarding the emerge behaviour.
After eix-sync, one of the packages printed in stdout is this:
Quote: |
[U] == x11-proto/xf86driproto (2.0.3@12/15/07; 2.0.3 -> (~)2.0.4): X.Org XF86DRI protocol headers
|
My next step is just to see all new packages for upgrade:
Quote: |
# emerge -uDNpv world
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating world dependencies... done!
[ebuild U ] sys-libs/pam-1.0.0-r1 [1.0.0] USE="cracklib nls -audit (-selinux) -test -vim-syntax" 0 kB
[ebuild U ] gnome-base/gail-1.22.1 [1.22.0] USE="-debug -doc" 659 kB
Total: 2 packages (2 upgrades), Size of downloads: 659 kB
#
|
Why the x11-proto/xf86driproto is missing?
When I try to upgrade only x11-proto/xf86driproto and not the whole world, everything is fine:
Quote: |
# emerge -upv xf86driproto
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild U ] x11-proto/xf86driproto-2.0.4 [2.0.3] 43 kB
Total: 1 package (1 upgrade), Size of downloads: 43 kB

Please someone explain to me. Is this a bug? If not what is the idea?
I regularly do a eix-sync; emerge -uDNpv world... and then emerge -uDN world. It looks like this behaviour will cause many packages that never been updated.
Thank you.
P.S. I am using ~x86 and ~amd64 with the latest ~packges. |

Thank you yamakawa. Thanks to your response and this I get the idea.
Is there any way to update all packages installed on my machine? I mean really all packages and not only the packages and their dependencies in the world file? Is this a good idea at all? |

i suspect your world no more need xf86driproto.
checking following
Code: |
equery d x11-proto/xf86driproto
emerge --depclean -p
