we should definately use the plugsched though since the updates would be more modularized

what idea about staircase with genetic lib ?

zaphod has many of tunebale params , also O(1) with mjb patch can be tunable with params as well , but staircase ... ?
it can be interesting :)

btw. staircase is low latency scheduler , depending of interactivity problems with genetic zaphod imho modyfi staricase to use genetic lib with keep up good low latencies will be a long way ...

btw.

An interactivity nightmare. It's fine for tuning throughput but the behaviour of a desktop should be reliable and predictable, not fluctuate all over the place.

It's impressive work, though, and nice to see some interesting directions for linux.

also I feel some issues with staircase 10.5 and reiser4 ( whole system )
with HIGH i/o usage i my mouse sometimes freezes.
I talk on #ck with Con and He told me that is reiser4 related problem so maybe changig k.rerise4 prior can do something but not sure. With O(1) everything is ok

I don`t fell this with previous staircase version like <=8.x

cheers

i noticed that when I used the stair case with the ck5 patch on 2.6.10 but I patched my own 2.6.10 with genetic-lib genetic-io genetic-as and the plug sched and I dont notice that mouse prob using staircase or zaphod for the cpuscheduler

in addition it was on 2.6.11-rc1 , with rc2 is better than rc1 but not 100% good
it was not depends of io scheduler , every as,gen-as,cfq,ts-cfq,deadline,no-op has the same issues with r4.

zaphod and other spa based are free of this , only staircase.

cheers :)

You are right, genetic isn't the greatest for low latency, though my point is getting at developing a better, lower latency version of the genetic library and implamenting it in staircase. Though, it would likely take awhile to develop a new implamentation of genetic. It really is much more of an idea then a thing i have the kind of time to do. Anyway, new dark-sources release :P.

The new ck is out, so I should have the appropriate nitro out within a few hours.

EDIT: Done. Just have to finish the big compile tests and reboot into it (to make sure that nvidia/WoW works) before I ship the patch off to the mirror.
