any known fixes for this?

Doing a little searching, it appears that it may be due to outdated linux-header files. make sure to unmerge linux-headers and emerge linux26-headers if you haven't already done so.

Also, have you tried emerge sync'ing and then tried reemerging gcc? It might be a portage bug =\...

I have the same problem and my headers are up-to-date.
It seems that somebody has already reported it as a bug:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78050
However, no solution is available yet.

I've got the same problem. Am switching to linux26-headers now, but it appears that isn't the solution. Help!

Having the same problem here. My gcc was selected for an update while I was trying to update my baselayout for wifi connection. These are the special things I did just before emerging (as in the wifi howto):
Code:
echo "=sys-apps/baselayout-1.11.8 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "=sys-apps/sysvinit-2.85-r1 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "=app-shells/bash-3.0-r7 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "=sys-libs/readline-5.0-r1 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge -uav sys-apps/baselayout net-wireless/wireless-tools sys-libs/readline bash

This is the output of my emerge infor
Code:
bash-2.05b$ emerge info

According to the Comment #2 in this Bug
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78052
SpanKY knows what causes the problem so hopefully he will fix it soon.

BTW, It seems that bug is a result of fixing some other bug - I really wish there would be more testing of "fixes" and that "fixes" would not cause firther problems.

Having the same problem and now the bug linked to in this thread has been duped to
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=78052
which has been marked resolved. Emerge syncing again now to see if it helps

EDIT: The resyncing and compiling worked. No bump on the downloaded ebuild though.

same here.

even changing to linux26-headers as stated in https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=279883 did not change the result.

it was bug at former times. maybe bug again?

i guess only changing the mirror will lead to the same result.

if there's an error in the recent ebuild, the error is spread all over.

but how to get an portage-sync which is some days old. mine are all recent. :(

it seems we have to wait the bug to be fixed. ;(

using an older portage snapshot has worked around this issue.

ftp://mirrors.blueyonder.co.uk/mirrors/gentoo/snapshots/portage-20050520.tar.bz2

If you decompress over an existing tree you'll have issues with files not being in digests, but if you know how to use 'ebuild' you'll figure it out :)

Same problem here. I was starting to install Gentoo on my laptop when the bootstrap failed. I look forward to this being resolved.

Yes.
I tried with an older portage, the one you give. And it seems to work with an new installation (that i do now).
