hi!
how can i emerge win4lin?
can i "unmask" the win4lin ebuild?
Code: | raccoon richard # emerge win4lin
Calculating dependencies
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "win4lin" have been masked.
!!! Error calculating dependancies. Please correct.

Use the "emerge info win4lin" (undocumented) command to see if your USE variables DO NOT have "-X" or "-gnome". If either are masked then win4lin won't be merged.
If one is masked, edit your /etc/make.conf and add at the end:
USE="X gnome"
If you are like me and are a KDE preacher, then this sounds "orrible" but there you go. |

Incidentally, there seems some blurgh about having to download the RPM from www.netraverse.com, you have to register on their site!
Look at your /usr/portage/app-emulation/win4lin/win4lin-4.0.11.ebuild file. |

close dazzle, but no cigar
The problem is that the ebuild developer left the KEYWORDS variable in the ebuild unset, which means it will not be an unmasked package for any arch.
If you really need this package (I have a feeling the developer left it like that for a reason ) all you need to do is write x86 between the quotes for the KEYWORDS variable. then emerge it.
But wait, thats not all. It will not fetch the package for you (since you need to download the correct package from NetTraverse, licences etc...), so just grab the package from where the error message tells you to, dump it in /usr/portage/distfiles and if all goes well, bob will be your uncle
Good Luck,
Chris. |

Dont smoke , cigars anyway!!
Erm, one more idea I've had is I recall from other forums, someone having a similar problem with Win4Lin on Gentoo sources (kernel).
Perhaps Win4Lin is only directly compatible with vanilla sources (i.e. from kernel.org)
There was a shit full of hacks required to get it working under Gentoo-Sources but I'm afraid I can't remember them - I simply installed VMWARE instead which is a fantastic virtual machine, runs any O/S - even linux in linux !! A bit slow though if your machine isn't up to much. |

This forum seems dead, but I'll try anyway....
I got win4lin all installed and it worked well till I rebooted. Now, it says the win4lin scritp isn't loaded, and it's not. when i run
Code: | /etc/init.d/Win4Lin start |
it says it has errors.......
Code: | * ERROR: "/etc/init.d/Win4Lin" has syntax errors in it; not executing... |
what gives? It worked fine before!
Any suggestions? I don't even know what line is failing since it doesn't give any debugging info at all. PLEASE HELP![/code]
-----ADDED-----
Sorry, looks like a dupe post (kinda). I fixed it, here's how;
Code: | cd /etc/init.d
mv Win4Lin Win4Lin.old
cp /etc/rc.d/init.d/Win4Lin ./
rc-update add Win4Lin default
./Win4Lin start |
Done deal. The one that is put into the /etc/init.d/ by default is bad. Seems odd, but it worked fine for me. Now it's time to hit up some Win4Lin. YEAH! _________________ bling bling |
