|
|
Hello everyone...
I was just wondering what people here are using for DVD / Video playback? I emerged xine, but I'm not too happy with it. It takes a very long time to start, and I can't seem to get DVD playback working... I see Mplayer around a lot on the boards, is that a good program?
Thanks for any advice...

Both xine and mplayer start playing in under a second on this lowly P3-800, probably something wrong if there's a large delay before playing.
I prefer xine but use mplayer as a backup. pornview is excellent for jumping around between videos otherwise you have to run xine/mplayer, then close it, then open a new video which is annoying (it uses xine though). |

xine and mplayer are both quite good. i am not sure what kind of system is the minimum req for playing dvds. but i can watch divx and so on.. on a p3-550.. so you should be able to watch dvds without a problem.
hope this helped |

xine doesnt have support for encrypted DVDs... all mine are encrypted so xine is totaly useless.
I tried ogle-gui and its amazing, picture quality is the best i have seen, even better than PowerDVD and its worked first time on every DVD i have tried.
When i first tried to play DVDs on the output was choppy, this was because i didnt have DMA enabled on my DVD-ROM. If you do decide to try olge make sure you run:
Code: | hdparm -d 1 /dev/cdroms/cdromX |
