|
|
Hello all,
sometimes I manage to boot from LiveCD, but after a while, when I´m trying to do something like mounting the created filesystems, the system just hangs without any warning or message. Even stop+a doesn´t work. But most of the times, it just hangs while booting, when trying to mout de CD. It stops on the message:
">> Atempting to mount CD:- /newroot/dev/cdroms/cdrom0"
TIA

Try booting with the ide=nodma kernel argument, like "gentoo-2.4 ide=nodma". _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

I'll add up a comment on the install docs / livecd info about it for 2005.0 since this problem shows up again and again from time to time.
Thanks. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

The livecd kernel is a special thing since it must be generic enough for every possible sun machine.
So, if i'd disable dma in general it wouldn't be very nice (but then most sun boxes have crappy broken dma chipsets like the blades 1x0).
If i remove the ALi driver then the chipset may not get claimed (hence no IDE support in general), or it could miss chipset bugs workarounds using the generic IDE driver.
I'll stick with the docs for now _________________ Gustavo Zacarias
