|
|
I've seen various messages all over the place, with people asking about what cards are supported by openboot. I have an Ultra10 and an Ultra5. I'd really like to boot off of a SCSI drive, and possibly install a SCSI tape drive.
The openboot doesn't recognize the 2 Adaptec cards I have (2940UW and 2930CU). I searched around, and found that Sun has support for various LSI/SYMBIOS chipsets. One listed was 53c895. So, I bought an inexpensive card off of eBay, installed it, and found it's not supported by the openboot on my system (I just upgraded to the newest version available. I think it's 3.3x). I'm sure it'll probably work fine once the system is booted, but I'd like to boot from it.
I've seen some cards on eBay, that indicate they're for Sun (such as X6540A, SYM22801, or 375-0005), but that doesn't tell me if they're supported by openboot.
Can anyone provide a list of known-compatible cards? I have devices that are 50-pin and 68-pin(high-density), so anything with these internal connectors would be great.
Thanks in advance for any help... |

Did you see if you can see the card from OBP?
You'll have to tell the machine to boot from it if you do. _________________ Gentoo systems.

The X6540A will be able to boot from U5/10 machines just fine.
Just be careful since not every SYM22801 (that some people relabel as X6540A) works fine.
It's not related to what it's programmed in the card's flash, doesn't need anything special in that way to work (actually some sym22801's from PCs will work just fine without reflashing anything since the firmware is contained in the U5/10's OBP). _________________ Gustavo Zacarias
