Does anyone know if/how well supported 3ware SATA RAID
cards are in linux on sparc?
I want to set up a really fast 1TB file server
With 4 250GB SATA drives and a 3ware 9500S-4LP RAID controller
and a gigabit NIC that can actually sustain full gigabit speeds.
and so I need a system with at least
1 66Mhz 64bit PCI slot and
1 66Mhz or 33Mhz 64bit PCI slot.
I've looked all over and it looks like an Ultra 60
is the least expensive machine I can get (by a whole lot)
that will have those slots and enough room in the case for the drives.
It would be awesome if it worked out. Otherwise
I'll have to go hunting for a deal on the next cheapest thing:
an athlon MP system with a tyan tiger mpx board in it.
And from the looks of it that will be a good $1000 to $1500
more expensive than an U60 and have a significantly decreased
awesomeness factor. _________________ Grrr, can't think of anything clever right now, I'll go back and edit this later (9/12/2003) |

What about a E 250?
I've seen systems to be sold for nearly the same price as some U60's.
You'll have far more space for stuff in those machines! |
