hi,
how come there are two version of opera in portage? opera and opera-static
I'm asking because , when you look at it, when you try to install opera (wich is masked) it downloads opera-xxx-static-qt.tar.bz2, and when you try to install opera-static (wich is not masked) it downloads opera-xxx-static-qt.tar.bz2....

That's curious, because they are certainly two different installs. Opera-static has the QT libraries built in, and doesn't necessarily take on the look of your system. However, it's much more stable as such. Usually. The opera ebuild uses the Opera-defined dynamic qt libraries -- smaller, and uses the Qt you've already got on your system. Why the names of the files, I don't know. You may try altering the ebuild.

When I do emerge -p opera, it returns:
Code:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild   R  ] net-www/opera-6.11

When i do emerge -p opera-static, it returns:
Code:

Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild  N   ] net-www/opera-static-6.1

If you hvaen't done emerge rsync lately, maybe you should. And then try to emerge opera again.
