I have a Rage Fury (AGP) and near as I can figure everything is configured properly. I'm using r128 as the driver, compiled into the kernel. glxinfo shows that direct rendering is running. Yay.

But, if I run glxgears or an OpenGL screensaver the system hangs. I can ssh in from my OSX box and kill the process and all is well again. I've seen others on this board mention similar problems, but I have yet to see anyone solve it or have any insight into what's causing it. Thoughts?

I have an ATI Rage 128 Pro (AGP) and I had the same problem.
So did these guys: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=2279

Their suggestions of switching AGPMode in your XF86config (i had to switch mine to 4), and DefaultDepth in the Screen section to 16 (for me) got mine working.

Hope this helps!
