Can there not be a beter way to deal with the config files after emerging stuff? I am a real procrastinator, and these config file messages are messing up my inner peace. I mean look at what I see every time I emerge something:
Code: | * Regenerating GNU info directory index...
* Processed 155 info files.
* IMPORTANT: 130 config files in /etc need updating.
* IMPORTANT: 7 config files in /usr/kde/3.3/share/config need updating.
* IMPORTANT: 9 config files in /usr/lib/X11/xkb need updating.
* Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files. |
Like I will ever take the time to fix all that now. Jeesh. |

The idea behind this is to make sure Gentoo doesn't overwrite your config files. This is a safety net. You could run etc-update but I'd be carefull... you should really follow this up more often... or not update your packages so often

running /etc/update took it down to Code: | * GNU info directory index is up-to-date.
* IMPORTANT: 107 config files in /etc need updating.
* IMPORTANT: 6 config files in /usr/kde/3.3/share/config need updating.
* IMPORTANT: 9 config files in /usr/lib/X11/xkb need updating.
* Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files.

before it needed interaction. Is it really impossible to model the logic needed to automate this process? |

You might want to try dispatch-conf instead. |

I'm thinking more like where the most likely correct change is made, and the system has a confirm correctness dialog at the next login/reboot (or when applicable program is next used) |
