Hey guys, I need a little help... I'm attempting to get a distribution of Linux called SLXT installed on my Sparc station, using Gentoo as the server.
A bit of background so that the problem is understood: SLXT is a distribution of Linux that allows a Sun station to "net boot" from another machine holding the binaries. (transferred via RARP lookup, and TFTP server) After the address is gotten via rarpd, the kernel xferred via tftp, it attempts to load the OS (a staggering 15 megs last I checked) via NFS. I've gotten all that down pat, and it loads everything fine!
The problem I am having is with XFS (the font server), and providing the "fixed" font to it. X/Win bombs out with an error stating that it cannot open the default font "fixed".
I do have xfs loaded, and it's serving on port 7100, however that's pretty much all I can really find out. I'm not very sure how to troubleshoot a fontserver.
Does anyone have any expertise in this field? Fontservers are like, the LAST thing I've ever used, as I've always done everything locally.
(I"m trying to make a thin-client environment here at home to make my transition from the Intel platform to Sun or Mac more seamless, along with saving resources by not duplicating disk and ram needs)
EDIT: The Gentoo on the server is on a Pentium-4, and isn't Sun. The thin-client is Sun, which really is irrelevant. |
