I'm going to buy a laptop very soon and the top-candidate is a Dell Inspiron 4150.
I was just wondering if anyone have any experiences with GNU/Linux on this laptop, and if anyone can tell me how good(?) the Linux support for the Ati Mobility Radeon 7500c graphics card is.
Thanks in advance. |

Linux on a i4150 works quite well. The only problem I have is that the screen get garbeled when it comes out of suspend You can find out more about this problem if you do some googleing.
The Radeon 7500c is supported by the radeon driver in Xfree 4.2.1. The driver supports openGL, but no 3d |

I have the 4150 as well and I get the same problem. Before that garbled screen would only happen in X but now, after I changed the console drivers in the kernel from vesafb to radeon, the console produces the same problem.
There's instructions about how to get DRI working and getting glxgears to do its thing. Basically all the hardware is very easy to install so you shouldn't have any major problems. |

Are there any significant changes between the radeonfb and the vesafb? |
