open a command window and run ut2004

If you get an error abt unable to load opengl and something abt "history" then you need to recompile glibc with ntpl enabled

when i tried to emerge glibc using nptl it tries to insall linux-headers and linux26-headers. the problem with this is that linux-headers block linux26-headers. What should i do?

Code:
emerge -C linux-headers
emerge linux26-headers
USE="nptl" emerge glibc

This helped me a lot. :)

I did also put ntpl in my make.conf after that.

finally got it working. I emerge linux26-headers, and then when i emerged glibc it no longer wanted linux-headers. I'm assuming that linux26-headers were meant for the 2.6 kernel?

The linux26-headers are meant for the 2.6 kernel and for NPTL. If you're still running a 2.4 kernel, you really should upgrade, especially if you're playing games. The 2.4 ekrnel simply cannot compare to the 2.6 kernel in kernel tunables and even default settings.

Starting with 2005.0, Gentoo is moving to 2.6 headers and a 2.6 kernel as the default, so it will actually take a lot of work to stick with a 2.4 kernel after that. The reasons are simple, 2.6 is the way Linux is going and we want to be there.
