I emerge XFree86 4.2.1, with Nvidia drivers 1.0.3123 and do a $ xvinfo and get "extension "XVideo" is missing..." I thought that the nvidia driver was supossed to work with this, any ideas? I made my xfree86.conf all pretty with glx enabled and using the nvidia not nv driver |

I can confirm this for XFree86 4.2.0, but not with 4.2.1. Malakin - are you saying that you are using 4.2.1 and you can get xvinfo to work properly? _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

I can confirm that xvinfo works under 4.2.1. After upgrading to X 4.2.1 I re-ran /usr/bin/X11R6/bin/xf86config and overwrote my old XF86config just to make sure it was compliant with 4.2.1 (since I was running 4.2.0). As far as the Nvidia drivers are concerned, all I did was change the driver from 'nv' to 'nvidia' and un-comment glx, which you did as well. Other than that, you could try re-emerging nvidia-kernel, and then nvidia-glx; it sounds as if the driver isn't loading properly.
Did you make any other video related changes to your XF86config file?
Also, are you getting the Nvidia driver's splash screen when starting X?
Finally, try running 'glxgears' - if the Nvidia drivers are properly configured you should be getting a very high frame rate (1000+ fps) |

Hmm, I got a gf4 and the latest nvidia drivers but when I enable DGA with xfree 4.2.1 opengl games and tv-overlay crash X, did enabling dma went ok with you (for opengl etc)? |

I'm using a gf4-ti with nvidia drivers and both xv and dga work fine. I have no problems running rtcw and ut2003...
