Hi all
I've been working hard recently for some posters for the Gentoo-Day here in Italy and what I've found is that finally - at least for me - Larry The Cow now has a body ;)
So I wanted to submit it to everyone here
http://www.smartart.it/works/gentoo/larry_the_cow-full.png

This has been made with InkScape and the svg is available here:
http://www.smartart.it/works/gentoo/larry_the_cow-full.svg

apart from this I've made also some posters for Gentoo, always with InkScape (it rox),
here you can find some previews of them:
previews
Abducted from Gentoo
Addiction to Gentoo
Portage

and here you can find the svg version of these posters:
A0 Format
Abducted from Gentoo
Addiction to Gentoo

A2 Format
Portage

the conversion in any format can be done within InkScape without any problem (in my opinion)

cya ;)

I am utterly confused by Larry the Cow. I wonder if there is a story behind the name. Maybe her? dad wanted a bull?

On the abducted one, shoudn't that read "if it moooves, compile it"?

I do like the posters. Good work.

ehehehe true, too late to print a new one ;)
these artworks are distributed under the GPL of course, so any modification are also accepted.

thanks Raffi

It's a he. That doesn't make it any less weirder, though.

EDIT: Oh, and I think that Larry should be a gnu! :D

A female cow named Larry. That is freaky as hell.

You may want to look into the anatomy of cows a bit before you claim this cow is male. If it is supposed to be male... it likely shouldn't have udders. :)

Which font is used on the "Abducted by gentoo" SVG. I'm trying to convert it into the correct aspect to use for a wallpaper but the fonts become messed up on me - so I guess I don't have the right font installed.

Btw, they are really nice work. :)

Well, I'm not sure about the whole cow mascot thing since I hate country stuff and it reminds me of gayway computers, but the portage thing is awesome. I changed the gradient to blue and I'm going to make a wallpaper out of it.

I can't get the SVG to render correctly. The top layer of the Gentoo logo is missing and the text is too big and halfway off the side. I'm using Gimp 2.0 and Gthumb (all I really have ATM).

Uhh. I'm going to come clean with you... There was an accident. :p ;)

Seriously though, what font is used on the Abducted SVG? I really want to make a nice high-resolution version to use as a wallpaper.

that's what I expected... the only thing to do is to emerge inkscape and then export as a png, if you don't want to, just ask me for right dimensions and I'll upload it onto my home site, no prob.

@ Z3RO 0: the fonts used in my svg works are available here: http://www.smartart.it/works/index.php?dir=fonts/

;)

Portage.png would make a great wallpaper especially for my c++ dev machine. Any chance you could make one in 1280x1024 format? :)

Here's the wallpaper: http://finux.net/compile-1280.png
(Although, the background seems to be python; no need to compile that. ;-))

Thanks Heaps! Even though it's not c++, it might spur me on to learn Python and maybe a few other languages in the future :)

It is posible that Larry can be a male cow with utters. On a rare occation some species of male mammals have been known to lactate. Men have the same type of breast tissue as women just the lack of necessary hormones to develop them and to produce milk. Hormone therapy or a prolactin producing tumor could have caused Larry's Utters to develop. This could also be a simple case of gynomastia (man-boobs).

Nice work.
IMO, I would prefer to have the body enlarged, right now the head seems to be out of proportion.

Nice work. Maybe it could be an idea for gentoo store to include posters, if it's not too much complicated.
