Hi,
I'm a newbie under Linux, and so, I really need your help, please help me, thanks a lot by advance.
I've got UT2003, and I would like to use it under Linux.
When I put the CD3 in the drive: I launch the "Linux Installer", then I get some screen, then I click "Begin Install", and then, the installation goes on a little bit, then the program asks me to mount the "Unreal Tournament 2003 Play Disc", which one is it: the CD1, CD2, or CD3????
Also, how can I mount the CD like they say (which command must I use).
Thanks a lot for your help.
Bye, and see you later. |

I don't know which is the play disk, try them all.
use mount and unmount for what you need. If your /etc/fstab is set up correctly you should be able to do the following:
Code: |
mount /mnt/cdrom
umount /mnt/cdrom

I had fun with this one too - couldn't unmount cd3 coz the installer was launched off it ...
I found it easier to copy the installer to hdd, then run it. |

You can also run the install script with the var SETUP_CDROM set, so that you won't have to have the cdrom mounted at the default location. Then you can for example copy all the cd's to your disk, or use an iso image or whatever.
SETUP_CDROM=/path/to/cd ./forgot-what-the-install-script-was-called
(and of course rename the dir where you have e.g. cd2 to /path/to/cd whenever cd2 is needed...) |

I have gone through all the steps listed here, but I'm still receiving an error that prevents installation. It completes the GUI portion of the install and then continues on the command line. After it gets a pretty decent way through this part of the install it returns and error saying that it doesn't have an email address. I would post the error, but I'm in a 'hole in the internet' where the only computers I have access to are Windows computers with modem connections. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

you might try a search on ut2003 or unreal tournament before posting such questions. i think i have your answers right here:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=21872&highlight=unreal+tournament
i've now read of a manifold of messages concerning entering "the right cdrom". the playdisc is disc one.
remeber not to start the installer from the cdrom itself. stay in your home and use a absolute path. when you've done everything right you won't even have to mount the other discs on your own.
i've never got behind the "no disk mounted" error, a friend of mine reported that the installer constantly tries to read from the floppy, well i have none. it should work either way, if you get this error ignore it.
if you installation does not complete the first time give it a 2nd and a 3rd try. _________________ If you fall off a cliff, you might as well try to fly. After all, you got nothing to lose.

Thanks for the thread, but I have seen that before as well. It's probably just something that I should have waited to post since I haven't seen the problem on any of the UT2003 boards or on this board. I'll post more details when I'm able to get back to my main system. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

I had this same problem. Make sure you compiled in MS Joliet extensions in your kernel. The install program was looking for a cd with a certain name, but without these compiled into your kernel, your system can't read the name of the cd. |

I read that on one of the UT forum boards and I compiled it in, but there's always the chance that I did something dumb like forget to make sure that I mounted the boot partition. I'll check to make sure that I've done that when I get back. Thanks! _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Alright, here's the exact output of the error that I'm getting. Here's to hoping that I'm just stupid and it's easily fixed.
Code: | ...
...
Decompressed ../UT2003Fonts.utx.uz2 -> ../UT2003Fonts.utx
100% - Textures/UT2003Fonts.utx.uz2
Decompressed ../VehicleFX.utx.uz2 -> ../VehicleFX.utx
100% - Textures/VehicleFX.utx.uz2
Decompressed ../VehicleSkins.utx.uz2 -> ../VehicleSkins.utx
100% - Textures/VehicleSkins.utx.uz2
cp: reading `Textures/WeaponSkins.utx.uz2': Input/output error
failed to uncompress file.
./setup.sh: line 214: 2513 Aborted "$setup" "$@"
The setup program seems to have failed on x86/glibc-2.1
Fatal error, no tech support email configured in this setup
The program returned an error code (1)
bash$ |
This was during the part of the install that required me to have Disk Two (as labeled) / Disk One (as referenced by the installer) in the cdrom. I don't know if that helps or not. If you have questions, I am more than willing to play with this to get it to work so I can, uh, play with it. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

Found proof of my stupidity.

The confusing thing is that it actually appeared to check the install space availible at the begining of the install and must have calculated if wrong. Just another heads up. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..
