|
|
Hi,
I am trying to run etc-update because after I emerge anything I get:
Code: | * IMPORTANT: 17 config files in /etc need updating. |
I do run etc-update. I can choose a file to work on. Then I choose any of the four options and I get:
Code: | Please select from the menu above (-1 to ignore this update): 1
/usr/sbin/etc-update: read: 1: syntax error: operand expected (error token is "1") |
I don't really know what to do in this case. etc-update has worked before, but I don't want to do any other emerging with this problem overhead.
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Matt |

Follow the directions, read the next line that follows Code: | * IMPORTANT: 17 config files in /etc need updating. | which should say something like
Code: | * Type emerge --help config to learn how to update config files. | and then you should be fine.

Bonez, it sounds like he is running etc-update, but it is throwning an error trying to parse the number he enters (where you pick if you want to keep the orig, merge them, etc)...
That is strange because it's supposed to accept a number there...
I'm just guessing here, but what version of portage do you have? You might see if updating portage resolves this....? _________________ Linux user off and on since circa 1995 |

If your pressing "1" and not a small "L" that is indeed a weird error. Until the problem is resolved you could just edit the files by hand to incorporate any changes. |

I am running 2.0.45-r1 of Portage. But I will just edit these files by hand. There are a few I will just delete, but just one questions: How do you delete a file (command line) with a . in the front of it?
Thanks,
Matt |

Just rm .filename like any other file _________________ #! /usr/bin/perl
