Hi, do you know if it's possible to run VMWare 4.5.2.8848-r1 on a 2.6.x kernel? (I actually have a 2.6.9) I know it's possible on a 2.4.x kernel...
Thanks

I run it and have been for some time, so I wouldn't think you would have any problems. The vmware-config.pl runs just fine, and I've been runing several Windows OS's in there, as well as recent Fedora and SuSE distros.
Just go ahead and emerge it, run the config, and you should be off and running. |

Ok? and you have a 2.6.x kernel running? The thing is, when I start vmware, after i configured it with vmware-config.pl, i got this error message:
Quote: | VMware Workstation is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured for your running kernel. To (re-)configure it, your system admin must find and run "vmware-config.pl". For more information, please read the VMware Workstation documentation.

I just don't know what to do from here.. I tried different configuration, did not emerged an other kernel in the meantime,.. well..?
Any ideas?

Reconfigure it first, just to make sure nothing went wrong. Then try tunning VMWare. If there's still no joy, try
Code: | rm /etc/vmware/not_configured |
(You'll need to be root, as you need to be to run vmware-config.pl)
If VMWare fails to run, then there's soemthing more nefarious afoot, but there are more things to try.
Oh, just to confirm, yes, I am running a new kernel. Here's my uname -a

Yeah, there was a problem with that file hanging around when it wasn't supposed to, but I thought that was fixed. Oh, well.
Anyway, glad it worked. Have fun! |
