You can get AMD Athlon64 kits at reasonable prices now, for a case, psu, motherboard & AMD Athlon64 3200+ it'd cost you around the £250 mark. Just get something like that and throw in your existing components, ohh and XFX do some cheap 256mb GeForce 5200's - I picked one up for £60.

Only downside, is that you'll spend more time with your PC than your girlfriend :P (if you don't already :P)

Sorry, couldn't think of any games (other than Enemy Territory, which is free) for Linux. Perhaps you'd be interested in Cedega, http://www.transgaming.com/. It's great for playing various Windows-games, from Total Annihilation to Doom 3. Quite cheap, too.

Or you could buy a Playstation. I just got mine, it is grrreat! :) There's nothing like a good round of Virtua fighter with a friend.

Sorry, I thought you wanted a PC from your girlffriend :) - You couldprobably plat the origional UT2004 on that system, and Doom3 in low detail.

I played Knights of the Old Republic a few months ago with WineX, it worked very well (and is a fun game).

Currently I'm playing Planescape: Torment with Wine, and that's a lot of fun too (and you can pick it up very cheap).

Planescape: Torment?
amazon.com
shop.com
froogle.google.com
ebay.com

That should cover it ;)

[edit] You should check out the Fix Pack as well. It fixes a lot of stuff the patch misses.

i'm from europe :). it's not as easy as it looks, though... the main problem is, that i don't want to pay indefinitly much money for a game that's that old.

Amazon.de has it for 10 euros. That doesn't seem too expensive to me.

Another quick UT2004 question.

If anyone has the CD version, does the game (the multiplayer one) run off any of the CDs for LAN play?

If not ill just get the DVD one but it would be cool to p0wn my dad :P

The linux version of UT2004 does not require the CD to run, but you only get one CD-key for online play.

it's 20 bugs and it's not (absolutely) sure, that it will be the english version, but i doubt that this game was ever translated in full. too much text.
