копался тут в домашнем каталоге и нашел файл сабжевый, только вот не пойму что это за файл, я его точно не создавал, посмотрел с помощью file и мне вот что выдало
dead.letter: ISO-8859 text, with CRLF, CR, LF line terminators
че за файл такой весом 2 Гб!!!!!!!! посмотрел его содержимое, а там оказали записи того что я проигрывал с помощью mpg123 и mplayer, странно..... |

What the line was doing, according to "man 5 crontab", was e-mailing the user it's set to each time a cron job is run, giving them the output of the job. For me, this was causing /root/dead.letter to grow really big (over half a GB) and screwing up my file backups.
I wonder why the default /etc/crontab for Gentoo has MAILTO=root in it. Default settings should always do nothing unless doing something is always good (and creating a 1/2 GB junk file in /root is definitely not good).

The dead.letter showing up in your homedir is the output of some script that is supposed to run and email the output to the user it is run as.
