Ebuild
Patch

NOTE for Software Suspend 2 users:
Since the swap writer is depreciated and it fails when I compile it, I have hidden the swap writer option and defaulted it to (n) in the kernel .config. You will have to use the filewriter. Im just starting to play with it now, it needs to be configured correctly.

For anyone who cares, here is the latest -skunk release. This release isnt all the snaz and jazz as some of the past releases, but I havent released anything in a few weeks so let me know of problems/improvements for the next revision. This patchset should cause no problems but contains many -mm patches so you are warned.

Interesting, you may be the first kernel I'll use on this install. Tell me, how does genetic AS compare to Starcase 11?

Genetic and staircase are completely different things. Genetic AS is an IO scheduler where as staircase is a CPU scheduler. They control different forms of resources. For the average user, genetic is not needed at all since it was created to adapt to different workloads, not desktop usage.

I knew that Staircase was a CPU scheduler, but thanks for clearing up any misconceptions. What threw me off is that I saw the cfq patches, but not patch-2.6.12-rc3-ck1. Oh well .

With my .config, make, shows some undefined symbol (see below) and I think these probably appeared after one of Adrian Bunk cleanups in mainline.

After these few changes, I don't see any of warnings described above.
The changes I made, are on top of skunk1 tree.

just for further note, I would like to do a new release with each -mm release inlcuding as much of if not the whole -mm patchset, in the case -mm causes me to many problems like in case of 2.6.12-rc2 (there is no -mm yet for -rc3) i tend to include the -bk, mm, misc, and reiser4 patchest plus some other odds and ends. i have a feeling most problems with -mm come from the new code found in the x86 and x86_64 sections so holler at me if you need support for a new feature

I would love it if you did a libata update patch (for SATA). I would be enjoying this new kernel, but I ran into some difficulties on this new install :)

Those warning always create problems for me when I've try to build external modules, such as the one for my laptop winmodem.. (grrr) ehm... not exactly those warning, but same type :)

Just another hint, genetic I/O sched has some problems with USB deplug as you can see in this thread from fallow's love patchset home-site.
I've tried your skunk1 (pure version) and it hangs exactly as that old version of genetic.
You can apply this diff (I made this one-line change by myself, and I don't know if the patch apply clearly on skunk tree) and it fix the problem.

Cheers

I just applied the patch cleanly with 'patch -p1', and it compiled afterwards, i will include that in the next revision, maybe tonight but I will prob wait till the morning and see if a -mm is realeased for -rc3

PS: im tyring to figure out how to use quilt to manage all the patches but so far no luck, if anyone know how to use that tool please help me

Imho, I think it's better wait a bit of days: skunk1 works fine and I don't think there're many big changes to prepare -skunk2 (indeed, just an -upd1 to include these latest fix. Do you think so?)

It would be good to include FUSE, git stuff, and some userland filesystems like shfs and squashfs. Very good patchset btw now that love-sources are gone :)

Suggestion : don't include the -rc patchset inside the skunk patchset. Just the patches between say -rc3 and -rc3-skunk.

Cheers,
priestjim

Love isn't gone, fallow just refuses to maintain love for reiser4 users. In fact, they are already looking for a new maintainer of love.

yeah I talked to fallow but im still not sure about the status of -love, my patchset is similar to his anyway and I use reiser4 so its will always be in -skunk, i havent been to the love channelto find out more details because Im sick of IRC, this last release was sorta half ass cause I haddent put one out:i meant to include squashfs, keep the requests coming, i will get it in there

i just wish i could figure out how to get quilt working, it would make maintaining these patches so much easier

all what predatorfreak said is true. mainly it was reiser4 but also some other factors.

about love ,all info on #love-sources [ freenode ] .

at the moment this patchset isnt similar ;)

1) has staircase , in love was (genetic) nicksched.
2) you using gl1 , in love was modyfied gl4
3) kexec isnt here.
4) fuse isnt here.
5) xbox patches arent here - In love is a guy who testing and preparing it.

rest is less important :)

cheers.

sorry, used to be similar, my system was hardlocking genetic nicksched, and the genetic I am using now is for 2.6.11 not 2.6.10

yeah i have notice that toshiba acpi was missing on 2.6.12-rc* it should work if u go back to a 2.6.11 kernel, i submitted a bug report a few days ago about that, for your ipw2100, i think you need pci-hotplug and firmware loading comipled into the kernel, i will test my next release on my roommates laptop he has an ipw2100

How 'bout updating the genetic algorithm implementation? Btw, the patchset is great (now that I've tested it)! No problems so far...

Genetic IS the latest. The genetic implamented is the latest for 2.6.11, possibly with minor fixes for 2.6.12-rc3 (I can't confirm that).

the cpad patch is for the device driver of the cpad, it is not the patch that has to do with preventing usbhid from handling the cpad events
