I was trying to get my MS intellimouse optical set up, and in the process, looking for a suitable spot to put a .Xmodmap file. I didn't want to use just ~/.Xmodmap because it's not system wide, and I'd rather not mess with that whenever I make a new user. So...
This is a part of the old xinitrc file:
Code: |
userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=XINITDIR/.Xresources
sysmodmap=XINITDIR/.Xmodmap
|
This shows the changes I made to make this a little more sane IMO:
Code: |
userresources=$HOME/.Xresources
usermodmap=$HOME/.Xmodmap
sysresources=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xresources
sysmodmap=/etc/X11/xinit/.Xmodmap
|
As I understand it, the old system wide files would have been looked for in a XINITDIR directory relative to the current dir. This doesn't seem very system wide, because it would be looking in whatever dir the user ran startx, right? So, I changed it to a hard-coded location, and all is well like that. What is the logic in the way it was doing it before? |
