Hi,
I ran top to see some memory statistics. I was a bit shocked to see the following line:
Code: |
2322 root 15 0 280M 23M 4920 R 1.2 4.7 0:54 X
|
I started X as a normal user, so I checked the XFree86 binary and it was installed suid. Is it normal/necessary to have X installed suid? On a Mandrake box I am also using X are not suid.
Also is it normal for X to take 280M of memory? I don't have anything running except mozilla, xmms, acroread and half a dozen terminals. I run X with nvidia 3d acceleration (NVdriver module) and I load the following X modules: bitmap, dbe, extmod, freetype, type1, v4l, xie, pex5, record, xtrap, speedo, glx.
I think though that this 280M is misleading. I started a second and a third X session. top reported again ~280M for each. My physical memory is 512M. No swapping ocurred though.
Thanks in advance, _________________ Manolis |
