I'm trying to install Gentoo on a second machine. I've got three problems. The first is that it won't boot! It stops when probing partition, I think its the partitions of the CD. In Slackware install it hangs there too, but it times out, and proceeds.
Second, the HD is FUBAR. It's a 20GB Fujitsu, and it can't take DMA. Strangely, this works in slack: Code: | hdparm -d0 -W1 -u1 -k1 -a32 -X66 /dev/hda |
Could this be related to the boot problems?
Video card is an S3 Virge GX/DX, and it won't go to ANY other resolution than 640x480 with the "s3virge" Xfree driver. With the "vesa" driver, it will go as high as I want, but its a slow bitch and I don't get XVideo. It's Xfree86 4.2.1.
The card is the 4MB PCI version. I'll provide some more details if requested, but please help. Slackware is currently installed, but knowing Patrick he compiles with the safest flags, and its not really BLAZING fast. _________________ C is for Cookies! |
