I know there's an answer for this out there but I haven't been able to find it. I'm trying to reinstall Gentoo on my Ultra 5. I've got a 40GB hard drive, but fdisk shows it as an 8GB hard drive. I had this working before. What could I be missing?

Thanks,

Patrick

Your disk label is likely FUBAR....
use fdisk to re-label the disk with the correct cyls, hds, etc ...
you may have to poke google for the specs on your drive

It turned out that if I partitioned the drive on a PC first, then hooked it up to the Ultra 5, fdisk would see all of it. I don't get why this works. I would think that the little-endian/big-endian thing would cause trouble, but it works.

Thanks,

Patrick

But wont the disk now have a DOS partition table on it instead of a SUN DiskLabel?

Is that what you really want?

Yes, but you can rewrite the sun disk label by using the "s" option in fdisk.
