Please note, these applications were working, now they don't. OK, when I start openoffice.org or xscreensaver-demo, my system pauses, the wallpaper that I have up turns weird colors, and then X crashes. I have a similar thread posted, but now it seems to be related more to something between xscreensaver-demo and openoffice.

I know that it's not gtk itself because firefox and beep-media-player still work, but perhaps it's something else related. I'm gonna try xmms to see if it's gtk1 or whatever gtk version that it uses.

EDIT: XMMS seems to work fine

Does anyone know why this seems to be broken now? I've updated xorg, openoffice, and several other smaller apps (including some gnome stuff to, I think). I've also added chipset support for my IDE controller in the kernel config and added ATAPI/Floppy support too, but I don't think these are related.

Does anyone know what could be broken between these?

EDIT: Also, is there a way that I can lines of text that are the same? I'm gonna 'emerge -pe xscreensaver' and 'emerge -pe openoffice' and compare dependencies

It seems that Openoffice doesn't actually use GTK, is there a way that I can compare the dependencies with both apps, eg. find same lines from 'emerge -pe xscreensaver' and 'emerge -pe openoffice'

I've solved it. Apparently, ATI's fglrx drivers aren't compatable with xorg 6.8.0-r1 . I'm gonna put a note in the xorg thread.

I've downgraded to 6.7.0-r2 and now everything works
