nVidia's drivers put ATi's drivers (or lack thereof-however you want to look at it) to shame... _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

I can't say they are always the top performer or have the best image quality, (they looked fine to me), but I have found Nvidia cards and drivers to be much more stable on both Windows and Linux.
Ever since switching to Linux, I have used only Nvidia cards with minimal problems. (Needed to use a ~x86 driver instead of x86 when switched to a 2.6 kernel) |

I"ve used NVIDIA and ATI cards and I think ATI is fine now in windows honestly, but in Linux they have a LOT of work to do. |

This topic has been done to death and beaten constantly for as long as I can remember. Maybe there should be a sticky or something in the/an FAQ. _________________ - I

meh...
My ATi card is staying firmly put until Linux delivers something that's actually worth playing.
Doom 3 and AA both fail on that count. _________________ Wasurenaide...

I had an ATI card on my desktop and spent around 20 hours trying to get it working properly. I read easily over 50 threads in the forums because of various problems little and big. (DRI problems almost made me give up on linux) I finally bought an nvidia card and set aside a weekend that I was going to use to get it running. On Friday night, I put in the nvidia card in and followed the steps in the Gentoo manual. I had it working in about 10 minutes without spending hours and hours reading the forums.
My laptop has an ATI card and everything works great on the laptop except the card. (TV out = nightmare). I dream of the day when I can afford to replace it. |

I never installed GNU/Linux on a machine with ATI gfx, but I'm quite satisfied with nvidia's drivers/support/tools. _________________ if only I could fill my heart with love... |
